Count Georg Friedrich Alfred von Fabrice (1818-1891).

German military leader and statesman born at Quesnoy-sur-Deule, France. He joined the army of Saxony at the age of sixteen and after about thirty years of service attained the post of chief of the general staff with the rank of major general.

When Saxony joined Austria against Prussia in 1866, he became commander of the Saxon troops fighting in Bohemia. The war ended the same year, in October 1866. He was then named minister of war in the Saxon cabinet. He served with distinction as a commander in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), negotiated the preliminary peace terms and was commander of the German army which occupied France.

Late in 1871 he reassumed the post of minister of war and five years later became prime minister of Saxony. He was created baron in 1878, became minister of foreign affairs in 1882, and received the title count in 1884.
